Liberia's National Elections Commission (NEC), Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, has officially announced her resignation. Her resignation was acknowledged on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, by President Joseph Boakia.

In her communication, Madam Lansanah explained that her decision followed consultations with family members and was motivated by her desire to take a break after more than twelve years of service to the Commission.
She initially served as a commissioner before being appointed Chairperson, a role she held for nearly six years. Davidetta Browne Lansanah was appointed Chairperson on April 10, 2020, by former President George Manneh Weah.
She presided over the 2023 Legislative and Presidential elections, which brought incumbent President Joseph Boakia to power.
The outgoing NEC Boss expressed gratitude for the opportunity afforded her to serve the institution and pledged to ensure a smooth transition.
In a statement released by the Executive Mansion, President Joseph Boakia praised Lansanah for what he called her dedicated and exemplary service. He stated that her tenure greatly contributed to strengthening Liberia’s electoral system.
The Liberian leader highlighted that the outgoing NEC Chairperson's leadership played a crucial role in improving the credibility, stability, and integrity of the country’s democratic processes.
Meanwhile, President Boakia has requested that Davidetta Browne Lansanah continue to oversee, manage, and coordinate NEC affairs through March 31, 2026, to ensure an orderly transition.
"President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has formally acknowledged the resignation of Honorable Davidetta Browne Lansanah as Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC)", an Executive Mansion release stated.
However, President Joseph Boakia has committed to initiating the process of nominating a successor in accordance with the Constitution and relevant laws.
