Information Minister Admits Error in President Boakai’s SONA

Capitol Hill, Liberia: The Liberian government has admitted that incorrect road statistics were presented in President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s 2026 State of the Nation Address.

During Monday’s address, the President said his administration increased paved roads from under 12 percent to at least 20 percent and maintained more than 780 kilometers of roads nationwide.

However, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah later clarified that the figures were misquoted from data submitted by the Ministry of Public Works.

Piah said the government is taking responsibility for the mistake and has already corrected the statement on the Executive Mansion’s official platforms.

This was a misquotation of what was submitted by the Ministry of Public Works,” Piah explained, adding that those involved in preparing the speech accept responsibility for the error.

According to the corrected version, the administration reduced Liberia’s paved road deficit from less than 12 percent to at least 20 percent, while maintaining about 783 kilometers of major road corridors to improve year-round access across the country.

The government said the clarification reflects its commitment to transparency and accurate public reporting.
