12-Year-Old Boy Killed in Buchanan; Suspect Rescued From Angry Mob, Police Launch Investigation
BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County, The Liberia National Police has launched an investigation into the death of a 12-year-old boy who was allegedly stabbed during a robbery in Buchanan City.
The victim, identified as Reuben Wheagar, reportedly died after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest by a young man identified only as “Trapper,” who is described as a disadvantaged youth commonly known as a “Zogo.”
According to reports, Reuben and his brother were buying plastic in the Flower Mill Community when the suspect allegedly confronted them and demanded their money. Witnesses told the victim’s father, Uriah Wheagar, that Reuben refused to surrender the money, after which the suspect allegedly attacked him with a knife.
The injured boy was rushed to the Liberian Government Hospital in Buchanan, where doctors later pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, angry residents reportedly attacked the suspect before officers of the Liberia National Police intervened and rescued him from the mob. He is now in police custody as investigators continue their probe into the alleged killing.
The incident has sparked widespread anger across the Flower Mill Community, with residents calling for justice for the slain child.
Mr. Wheagar has appealed to the Liberia National Police to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the suspect is prosecuted. He said that if the suspect is found guilty by the court, he should face life imprisonment.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
