Breaking News ELBC Legend Frank “Dogpound” Loboe Is Dead, Family Confirms

Monrovia, Liberia: Liberia has lost one of its most recognized sports broadcasting voices as veteran journalist and sports commentator Frank “Dogpound” Loboe has reportedly died following a prolonged period of illness.

His death was confirmed by his daughter, Tenneh Loboe, who announced the heartbreaking news via a Facebook post.

This is a sorrowful news, family. I just lost my handsome dad. Rest in peace dad. I will forever miss you,” she wrote.

Loboe was widely known for his energetic radio personality and memorable style, which earned him the nickname “Dogpound.” Over the years, he worked at Liberia’s state broadcaster, the Liberia Broadcasting System (ELBC/LNTV), where he became one of the most familiar voices in sports commentary and national broadcasts.

Several Liberian media platforms and social media outlets also reported the death, describing Loboe as a veteran broadcaster whose voice helped shape Liberia’s sports culture and radio commentary for decades.

In 2025, concerns about Loboe’s health became public, with reports indicating he was struggling with serious medical conditions and in urgent need of assistance for advanced treatment. The New Republic previously published a public appeal urging Liberians at home and abroad to support efforts to save his life.

Online tributes and posts in recent months also referenced his worsening condition and the public’s emotional attachment to him as a national media figure.

Beyond the newsroom, Loboe was viewed as more than just a commentator. Many Liberians remember him as part of the “golden era” of radio sports commentary a broadcaster who made competitions feel alive through his delivery, humor, and passion.

As tributes continue to pour in, many are describing his death as not just a loss to journalism, but a loss to Liberia’s sports identity and broadcasting tradition.
