Liberian Duo Make World Chess Olympiad African Sections Early Top Ranking

Samarkand, Uzbekistan: Liberian Chess prodigies Georgina Sackie and Wallace Williams have emerged among the top performers in the African leaders section at the ongoing 46th World Chess Olympiad after the first six rounds of matches.

Three-time Liberia Women's Chess Champion Georgina Sackie currently shares the first-place spot in the Women's African leaders section at the tournament with a Togolese contestant, tied on 5.0 points each from 6 matches.

The promising female Chess player has won five of her six encounters for Liberia in the 46th World Chess Olympiad. The tally stands as one of the best so far in the African women's section.

Sackie began the tournament on a rocky note when she tasted defeat in her very first match. Fast forward, the Liberian international grabbed her rhythm and moved on, winning five straight matches.

Sackie crushed opponents from the U.S. Virgin Islands, Chad, Hong Kong, and Pakistan. Her highest-scoring win stands at a 4–0 victory over the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Wonderkid Georgina Sackie, who failed in her debut Chess Olympiad in Hungary to lay hands on the prestigious title, will now keep her head high as she competes for the 46th-term title.

The reigning Liberian female Chess champion will need to maintain her consistency in the ongoing tournament to achieve this dream.

On the other hand, Liberian male Chess player Wallace Williams stands second in the African leaders open section with 4.5 points, behind a contestant from Equatorial Guinea who holds 5.5 points in first place.

Williams has won four, drawn one and lost one from six matches so far. He has triumphed over tough opponents including contestants from South Sudan, New Caledonia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

His impressive performance has also kept Liberia's hopes high in the tournament. George Sackie and Wallace Williams are part of a Liberian delegation comprising 10 players participating in the competition.

The champions of the African section at the Olympiad are determined by the highest overall-ranked player from the general system.

The 46th World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan is bringing together Chess champions from various countries to compete for international titles.
