Regional Maintenance, Technical Issues to Cut Power Supply in Monrovia
Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced expected power disruptions across parts of Monrovia and surrounding communities due to ongoing regional electricity challenges.
According to LEC, Liberia relies partly on electricity imported through the regional power grid. However, that supply will be affected as maintenance works are scheduled on the transmission network from March 26 to March 28, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM daily.
In addition to the planned maintenance, one of Liberia’s regional power partners is also experiencing technical generation issues, further reducing the amount of electricity available to the country.
As a result, LEC says customers should expect intermittent outages, low voltage, and unstable electricity supply during the period.
To ease the impact, the corporation will rely on its local generation sources, including thermal plants and hydroelectric power such as Mount Coffee. However, LEC cautions that these alternatives may not fully meet national demand.
The situation highlights Liberia’s continued dependence on regional electricity imports, with disruptions outside the country directly affecting power supply at home.
LEC is urging residents and businesses to plan accordingly while efforts continue to restore normal supply after the maintenance period.
