Monrovia, Liberia: The Director of Press and Public Affairs at the House of Representatives of Liberia, Robert Haynes, has strongly commended Journalist Cyrus Joel McGee, a former Legislative reporter, following his election as President of the Midwest Chapter of the Association of Liberian Journalists in America (ALJA).
ALJA acts as the umbrella organization for former and current Liberian journalists residing in the United States.
The ALJA Midwest Chapter remains a key pillar within the organization, playing a significant role in shaping the mission and objectives of Liberian journalists and media practitioners in the U.S.
Cyrus Joel McGee was elected on March 29, 2026. Haynes described McGee's achievement as a proud moment for Liberia’s media community both at home and in the diaspora.
Speaking during a press conference in Monrovia, on Monday, March 30, Director Haynes emphasized that the election of a former Legislative reporter as ALJA's Midwest President reflects the commitment of Liberian journalists to uphold professional excellence beyond national borders.
McGee, who served with distinction as Assistant Secretary for the Legislative Press Pool during the 53rd Legislature, was recognized for his unwavering commitment to credible, ethical, and impactful journalism throughout his years of service at the Capitol Building.
The House Press Director noted that McGee’s transition from a legislative reporter to an international media leader underscores the value of experience gained within Liberia’s governance structures, particularly in promoting transparency and accountability.
Now serving as Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. branch of KMTV, McGee continues to expand his influence in media, bridging Liberian stories with a global audience while maintaining strong ties to his professional roots.
Robert Haynes expressed confidence that Cyrus Joel McGee’s leadership at ALJA Midwest will inspire a new generation of Liberian journalists in the diaspora to remain committed to truth, integrity, and responsible reporting.
“Journalists play a pivotal role in promoting democracy by ensuring accountability, transparency, and informed public discourse. We are confident that Mr. McGee will continue to contribute meaningfully to these ideals,” Haynes stated.
He further stressed that the election of the young media practitioner comes at a critical time when the role of the media remains central to strengthening democratic institutions and amplifying the voices of citizens across national borders.
