Boxer Anthony Joshua Survives Car Crash, as Strength Coach and Personal Trainer Reported Dead
LAGOS, NIGERIA: Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua, narrowly escaped death in a tribble car crash on Monday, December 29, 2025 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria.
Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion was traveling in the back of a Lexus SUV near his ancestral hometown, when the vehicle was involved in a collision at around 11 a.m. local time.
According to local media reports, rescue teams quickly rushed on the scene to recover the accident victims. The boxer sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to a specialist medical facility in Lagos.
Police authorities have since confirmed two dead in the tribble accident. The identities of the two individuals earlier confirmed dead in the ghastly car crash involving heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua have been revealed.
One is reported to be his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Evovle, while the other is a close friend and personal trainer, popularly known as Healthy_Mindset. Both were said to have recently arrived in Nigeria to spend the Christmas holiday with Anthony Joshua.
Reports say they were four traveling in the vehicle. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been officially disclosed as investigations are ongoing.
Anthony Joshua, who holds dual nationality, has family roots in Sagamu, Ogun State, where he is known to spend time during visits to Nigeria.
News of the accident quickly spread across social media, shocking fans at home and abroad.
Joshua, 36, is one of the most recognisable figures in world boxing. Born in Watford, England, to Nigerian parents, he rose to global fame after winning Olympic gold at the London 2012 Games.
He later became a unified heavyweight world champion, holding the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles, and is widely credited with reviving mainstream interest in heavyweight boxing.
Known for his discipline, power, and athletic build, Anthony Joshua has fought some of the biggest names in the sport, including Wladimir Klitschko, Andy Ruiz Jr., Oleksandr Usyk, and Joseph Parker.
Outside the ring, he has often spoken proudly of his Nigerian heritage and maintains strong cultural ties to the country.
